The Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission is cooperatively working with the Florida Department of Health on a wild bird mortality database. This project was initiated to support surveillance for bird die-offs and aids in monitoring for Avian Influenza (AI) and West Nile Virus (WNV).
(Note: Mosquitoes do not spread Avian flu or any other kind of flu virus.)


The bird mortality reporting system is located on the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission's web site at: http://wld.fwc.state.fl.us/bird. Below are several downloadable fact sheets that discuss a number of topics, including mosquito-borne diseases, other biting insects and how people can avoid these insects.
